Is this the real peace or another trick?

Hello Mading Aweil,

I have a big question about the  peace agreement between our movement and the  Khartoum goverment, while we are waiting for finally peace to be sigh on sunday the 9th, iwould like to know from any one who might have more information about peace to tell me if this is the reall peace we have been waiting for, or is another trick from Khartoum goverment.

these are the reasons why i'm not convinced with this peace:

1 According to NIF, John Garang will not have the authority over the military of  Khartoum.

2 why would it took NIF 3 yrs to take their troops back to norhtern Sudan? instead they are now piling up their troops down south[ southern Sudan].

3 Nafie Ali,the Deputy secretary, quote, all the  sudanese army forces will be under second vice president Ali Osman Taha in the absence of the president.why not the first vice president[Garang] who represnet us?

 Thank

Lual Marialbai

Dear Marialbaai,

Welcome to the board bro. The very questions you asked are what everyone is pondering over. I do think that this peace has many underlying problems than most of us tend to believe. This  issue of first VP not assuming the full powers of the president in the later's absence particularly command over the military is worrisome. One only wonders what this peace is all about if such conditions still hold. Another area of great concern is presence of GoS' military in the south which will include militias that they already begun to absorb. GoS is outwiting southerners in a broad day light. There is also this idea of southern Sudanese army which will not be funded by the central government. This is going to put the south into some sort of dilemma; that is, south will have to make a difficult choice on whether to allocate her scanty resources on the military and starve other services such as health and infrastructure or allocate more fund toward development and risk having weak military.

So your question whether this peace is real or another trick is well placed, southerners need to exercise more caution to avoid the repeat of history. The government of south Sudan also needs to do more especially with regard to bringing about southern unity.

Lual Deng,

Welcome although I am not a legitimate member of Aweil community who should welcome you. But being a partcipant can make me assume that role, what do you think? Actually they say a guest cannot welcome another visitor.

Your question is logical but it is not surprising to see the GoS taking that position. There are a few factors why it happens that way: first, Garang is the commander-in-chief of GoSS (SPLA) forces; second, Garang is independent of Beshir and Taha as stated very clearly in the peace agreement. Therefore in the absence of Beshir, Garang will have no authority to order the national troops for a coup or something related to that.

There is no way he be the C-in-C if SPLA which is independent of GoS forces and at the same time have command on the National army. He can declare a coup or arrest Beshir and Taha through the two armies without any interference. Otherwise if SPLA was not separate from GoS forces, he will have a legitimate reason to command the forces when Beshir is away.

Deng Mtoto,

Asante sana kwa kunijibia jibu hilo. I just felt that the guest's duties should not override those of his/her host. Otherwise, your point is well taken.

Hi Lualdit,

Welcome aboard.Everyone especially ,southerners  are so frantic about recently signed peace.

I ,in particular ,am not so optimisstic about about it,  at all.I will only accept it as real when these conditions are met: If  Uncle Beshir, s  government offers some of its lorries for transportation of the El salaam camp displaceds to various towns or locations in the south .Secondly, if merceneries of NIF ,the south citizens, are given options to join the army of their choice ,when the garissons in the south  are moved to the North and so on and so forth.

Quoted from :

"Once beaten twice shy, and  one,s brain encounters one,s brain."

May God bless New Sudan , and Aweilians.

Santino Aluat,peace!!

Hello Garang Mayuen,Santino Aluat and the board of Aweil community, i hope all of you are enjoying the peace and spiritually doing well.

Back to the point, peace has been signed, congratulation to all our freedom fighters, their soul may not be forgotten, and congratulations to our mothers and fathers who committed their life to remained reside in Aweil area.

Remember, SPLA or Gos have signed the peace that's done, but the biggest war is on the way, implementation is the harder part, six yrs of the interim periode, gos will try to absorb the southerners,by develoment or other sort of givinings in seek of unity, well some advancements might be dangerous and some might not,our people in Africa are our eyes in abroad, please be consecious to raise our voices, develoment should immediately start in Aweil first,to repay our brothers we lost during the civil war, we were dom nhom during the war, we should be a kalthok now.

Thanks

Lual Dengdit
