Northern Bahr el Ghazal state severely affected by the food shortage which reported across the statewide that the hungry emerges imminently while the government seemingly silence over the issue aggravated by the price raises in all the markets.
Speaking to the Citizen Newspaper on Monday one of the Community Chief who identify himself asDavid Kuol Garang of Manyiel village in Northern-Bahr El Ghazal Aweil East County said that the overwhelmingly silence of the state government and the shortage of the news cover in the area worry them most.
The hunger hit us severely and there are a lot of faint to death causes that happen here and there across the statewide and the media coverage never reports about our problem pointed that the hunger is going to be worst than 1988 hunger which approximately claimed more than two hundred thousands lives in Greater Bahr El Ghazal region., said Garang.
We never heard it reported over radios, TV and the newspapers as well either there ispreparation measures underway plannedby our government because hungry is the natural disaster a phenomena which is beyond civilians control, but it need government to prepare and put mitigation modalities before it is out of hand, said Garang.
He repeatedly said we want help; we want help from our government and international community before hundred of lives claims by the hunger since fainting reached it peak in the state counties and payams.
The result of hunger and food shortage comes as the acute draught in the state this year which prevented hundred thousands of farmers to cultivate because the success of the farming activities in the state base on the rainfall, he pointed.
The whole state never cultivated this year and we are so worry as we see our government at state level quieted over the peak up of prices in the market as the hunger hex, said Garang.
The kilo of sugar leapt from 2SSP to 8SSP, one Malawa of grains or maize from 5 SSP to 23 SSP,kilo of bean to 8 SSP cited that the prices are up and up in all state markets and also very rarely to get grains , he added.
He further said that bag of flour pick up to 230 SSP which is so painful to poor people compare to me.
He appeals to the government of the Republic of South Sudan especially the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to send team to see the worst situation by themselves.
