Congratulation to Ateny Wek

friends, Colleagues, and all visitors of this board,

I have a pleasure to express my grattude to Mr. Ateny Wek Ateny for his breathe-taking history on Mading Aweil. Mading Aweil history which is currently posted on the "about aweil page" on this website is the most telling and comprehensive piece of writing on Mading Aweil I have ever read. It is a story that gives one a sense of pride, particularly when one tries to image the struggle of our grand-fathers against the colonialists, and their refusal to be ruled and enslaved by outsiders on their own land. When I read about the "war of Waj- Atiar" I was pround to have come from Aweil. Despite being heavily armed with modern weaponry, colonialists were fiercely resisted by our people. That is the spirit which kept Mading Aweil intact in the course of the on going civil war, irrespective of the excruciating attrocities by Muralleen, the spirit of determination and peservarance.

Ateny Wek has provided an opportunity for Aweil citizens who might be thinking of doing some writing on Aweil. Our history is rich, so folks, put it down in books. Stay cool wherever you are.

Garang Kuot.

Dear Aweilians and friends,

I would also like to express my deepest appreciation to our elder brother Ateny Wek for feeding us with this valuable information about Aweil community. It is indeed very important for we the young generation of Mading Aweil to know our community biography fully. Thank Mr. Ateny Wek for putting this into effect. Most of us did know our community partially but now we know it fully through your well gathered information about Aweil community. Thank once again for taking your varied time to write this article.

Bol Ajith,

No doubt man, Ateny Wek ought to be thanked for his tremendous effort to provide this invaluable information to us. This information is particularly valuable for the likes of us who never had an opportunity to learn such stuffs from our dads and other relatives. I have never heard of historical figures like "Chak-Chak, Aken Akec" and events such as those narrated in this writing. This is in no doubt a great piece of work. This account has also helped to explain the mystery behind the cordial co-coexistence between Lou (Jur chol) of Aweil and their Dinka counterparts, their relationship goes back to some hundreds of years ago. Given this story, I am beginning to think that time will come when there will be no such thing as Lou and Dinka in Aweil, this demarcation will die out along the way. Take care.

Guys!

It was really touching to read that piece of work put together by brother Ateny Wekdit which I believe had taken him enormous time to gather this fantastic work. One thing I find interesting was how friendily Dinka are to create a multi-ethnic Aweil that was too hospitable for minorities who are not Dinka?

Again thanks to Ateny Wekdit for keeping our root a live which I believe he will be of great asset to our youngmen struggling to pick up Aweil traditions with disappearing of our oldest generations.

Dear Brother Kuot Kuot, Garang Aher, Bol Ajith and all,

I had sphered time to read your congratulatory messages to me, for the information I have gathered for Mading-Aweil readers, and it was spectecular reading it. However, I felt more than honoured amongst my own people. I felt it is a duty I must do for the welfare of our people, for I have no reason to try to subdue people by force, like what is done by those, who think Aweil is theirs by vertue of "pulling it by tail". In this forum, we can do it better, thanks to the knowledge of our young brother Kuot Kuot, who made it possible. Without Kuot, Aweil people, might have had a website somewhere, sometimes, but it could have not been in this marvelous shape. Long Live Great Aweil!! Long Live our Unity!! down with those who temepered with our unity!! Victory is certain.

Kind Regards.

Dear Ateny Wek,

First and foremost I am honored to give you a word of appreciation and gratitude. I am tremendously happy to see you again pouring your rich knowledge into us. This is your importance as vigilant, fair, caring, loving, committed, liberator, and more importantly patriotic elder. Ateny Wek, what we have is just formal education but we barely have such vitally important information about our community. It is extremely difficult to find such information easily, particularly for most of us who left Sudan when they were very little before they absorbed this precious knowledge. Again, thanks for honest and superb job to provide that information.

Further, I know there is immense generation-gap that might create major problems between young people and elders, leaders, and senior fellows in our community but "we" (youths) always maintain that the latter deserve a unquestionable respect and honor from the former. This is really important because "you" (the elders) have more capacity to store and retrieve this vital information we need to clearly know and recognize our identity as youths. Personally, what I know and I devoutly hope most of my friends or colleagues at my age know is that, the grown-ups are vitally instrumental and informational with the respect to their exception ability. Having mentioned that, I believe we are ready to co-operate with our elders, leaders, and senior fellows to achieve and restore the integrity of Mading Aweil. It is fundamentally important we must understand it and work towards achiving better tomorrows or futures for the same reason. The misery or prosperity of Mading Aweil is ultimately our obligation; on the contrary, we might find it ridiculous to use the word "obligation" because we are not mandated by any authority to do the job but I believe that, intuitively or instinctively we are obligated to find the "liberating truth" for our people who have no ability to help themselves. We are their "eye" therefore we must get committed regardless of huddles or these obvious impediments we are all facing. I hope Mading Aweil recuperate its integrity, we will re-shape it in a better way so that we are again respected and honored by those who taken advantage of the current quangmire our people are in because of this war.

Thanks,

Garang-Mayik Aher

Dear all,

It is extremely difficult to change people but it doesn't worthwhile to ignore the whole thing which is the factual reality of the situation. I think encouraging unity and peace amongst us would be a hard job but it would extremely important if we remain committed to our responsibilities and continuously stay in the course. We have to look our historical background how strong it is before we forget it all and do contrary things we have been doing. It is actually disturbing when I compare the current Aweil to Ateny Wek incredible information of the past Aweil. I couldn't believe this is Aweil community which has been negatively portrayed by those who benefit only Aweil community is sharply divided. It is a true thing and we must give it a top priority before anything else. Notwithstanding the fact that the situation in the Aweil or whole South has been fragile, I urge my fellow Aweillians to stay in the course of achieving a durable unity and peace that would be conspicuously seen by outsiders. We are not against the interests of our neighbors and friends but for us to coalesce our relation with them, we ought to have unity amongst ourselves. However, unity amongst us won't come through silent and clandestine activities secretly to destroy others intentionally but it will come through working with one another for the sole purpose of eradicating disunity and bad habits that are disabling our effort. Let's forget our major differences that have no clear cause and begin to work as brothers and sisters who are facing the real threats: These threats are obvious and we must get back on the right track to combat them as a united team. To me, this is the only way we can actually help ourselves as well as others who might be in need of our help. We should have a good understanding and trust amongst us (the learnt) before we give non-educated the elements we want them to take and change their lives in a better way. This is what I believe should be the starting point in our endeavor to bring stability and unity to our region/regions. I am really afraid of the way things are being done in our community/communities because there 's n't been a proper and honest way of serving the community of Mading Aweil. The major fight has been on personal gains and self-aggrandizment which to me is precisely incorrect because it is endangering our lives. It is a crucial and challenging task to meet and deal with it in a responsible and patriotic manner so that the goal of serving or liberating the community is ultimately achieved. This must be our objective though it might carry idealistic sense to most people who would think that it is hard to achieve unity, and moreover, it is hard to pursue what will bring people together.

The bottomline is that let's work for the unity to maintain our strong history and integrity.
