Why Jellaba clings on United Sudan?

To answer the above question, it is worth asking ourselves why NIF Regime stills hold tight grip on Southern Sudan whom they had been alienating all these years as not basically part of their backyard. Independent Southern Sudan is not a term coined by Southerners but arabs own making. Economic disparity, sluggish development in South, subordination, extensive exploitation, imposition of sharia are witness and confirm existence of two distinctive states under one colonial master, that is Arab. It is irrational to still regard myself as part of United Sudan when a government that claims legitimacy to rule me had perpetuated deadly and ugliest impunities on my lives. In the mind of Arabs, Southern Sudan existence was like a sphere of influence just like when most of the African countries where under colonial rule.

With that in mind, it is in correct judgement to say, NIF Regime fight nail and tooth to convince international community that United Sudan for six years transitional period will provide viable political settlement for Sudanese conflicts. That is the picture imprinted in the mind of the audience but in their hidden agenda having been fully convinced that it is a matter of six years and Independent Southern Sudan is imminet, they embrace this transition period as opportunity to get their debt cancellation by sympathetic international community, used oil to upgrade their economic, rehabilitate war damages and possibly try their luck if this agreement could fall into the same grave of AddisAbaba agreement and the cycle begins.

In the light of these, the question is, "Has the SPLA/SPLM leadership psychologically prepared the mind of Southerners for this two directions?" It depends with whoever you ask, but basically, it seems the SPLM leadership is dwelling so much on promoting United Sudan and turns blink eye to the other side of the coin. Our geniune grievances to the Movement is to engage all these track simultaneously.

We have learned recently that this Regime could only be convince at gun point which is evident in them being caught at quagmire with situation in Southern Sudan still stranded at the table and situation in Darfur on one hand and many more threatening situations in Eastern part of the country. These are significant development that could not be ignored since they will provide an opportunity to dipose this Regime sooner or later. The fact of the matter is, whoever dreams of being a leader of United Sudan has to know that the possibility of strong centralized government is nil. The substitute at hand now is a loose federal system of government with many powers centered at various states. So in short, the SPLA/SPLM has to know that Southern Sudan is their home and they have to fully prepare their base there before reaching far.

Good answers in the response you had made!! Keep in mind that our dream will become true in the Southern part of the country but not virtually Sudan in general!!

Hi Dhor,

Good topic for discussion and excellent answers you provided to it. I wanted to put my inputs to it but kind of busy right now. I will response to it later on. United Sudan is beyond my scope and so do many Southners. I am allergic to United Sudan.

Dhor and Bolajith,

The term "United or New Sudan" is precisely a gigantic error. The unpredictability and vagueness of both warring sections is a huge problem. Notwithstanding the fact that most of us genuinely want to have independent Southern Sudan, there are those who think United Or New Sudan would be better than South Sudan. I don't fathom the importance of having the United Sudan.

that was a good topic of discussion dhor aher. the term 'new sudan' or 'united sudan' are psychological frames like '100% fat free' or '100% money back guarantee' that you always see in commercial advertisements. people have to look between the hype. the splm/a have achieved major victories in thier negotiation with NIF government. it is the first of its kind in history for arabs to be liberal as such. there are things that need to be sorted out before digesting thier agreement. at the same time, southern sudanese themselves seemed to be fool by this trick as the end of war.

i can see people trying to cut themselves lion shares of aids, land and position which will not let us reach the final. we have started counting out chickens before they are hatched. people have not understood what the arabs say that even if i given them their country now they will not manage it well because they will fight among themselves. it ia evidence now in yei and other places. also instead of our leaders distributing these little resources and position fairly and grab later, they started to grab now which is a bad start for them.

i don't think if we can get people like nelson mandela of south africa in southern sudan. people who give everybody a fair go and forgive their enemies for the sake of unity.

thanks for good discussions.
