I salute you all in the name of our motherland Mading Aweil. As promised, in the main time, I will give a brief report of the outcome of the Kansas City annual Convention dated 11/26-27/004.
Before I go into the report, let me give a little background about the Association itself. This was a brain child of Aweil members who felt scattered into various States in the U.S and realized that for them to mobilize resources to help their homeland back home, they have to form a umbrella to center all this efforts and possibly gear them towards reconstruction of post-war Aweil.
For better comprehension, I will break report down into many relevant pieces.
The meeting was opened with prayers and invitation of Aweil community chairman in Kansas City who was the hosting State. The Chairman welcome entire Aweil community into Kansas and thanks his team of Volunteers who graciously contributed to the success of the occasion.
I. Report from Various States inhabited by Aweil community Members:
Each States representative was called upon to give brief annual report of the progress of their community. The report was mainly on kids progress in schools, lives in general, number of members in States, financial status and any other relevant issues pertaining to States.
After each report from State, the entire conference was given a chance to post any questions or inquires they wanted to know from each State.
II. Aweil Community Association Annual Report:
The out going president Ustaz Kuc Majok Kuc reviewed the objectives of the Association to make analogy of what they have achieved so far.
The content of the objectives include:
a. Constitution.
b. License
c. School supplies for kids at home in Aweil.
d. Social services.
The president also outline achievement in his tenure which the details involved names of Aweil community individuals assisted whom I will not mention here for privacy reason.
One of the challenge he went down in flame was his failure to initiate a project during his tenure of 2 years.
General Evaluation:
Since it was the second tenure after inceptions of the Association, The out going Committee scored a grade of 50% average achievement which was quiet promising since they started it from scratch and it left a task for the next leadership to stretch it out and build something far more better on it.
In his farewell message, the out going president Mr. Kuc Majok Kuc appreciated what he achieved so far given the challenges he faced. He thanks Aweil community for giving him an opportunity to serve for 2002-2004.
III.Election:
Each State proposed their candidate and all these candidates were given a chance to higlighted why they wanted to run for Aweil Community Association leadership. The common theme in their opening statement was to unite Aweil community, education and social service to Aweil citizen back home.
The result of the election produced 2004-2005 Aweil community officials who will lead us into next tenure. We will post their name later if we get our hand on complete leadership structure.

Wow! that is a fantastic report Dhor Aher. Thank you so much for taking your valuable time to prepare such an amazing report. It is quite encouraging that Aweil community in the States is not sleeping. That conference and the resolutions arrived at will be a work up call among Aweil people around the world. The fact that Aweil community in the USA and friends were able to promised 16 schools at one setting only shows the level of commitment towards reconstruction and rehabilitation of our homeland. We therefore have every reason to belief that things will be fine irrespective of the 21-year long destruction of Mading Aweil and the wider south.
I should also appreciate the commitment shown by Mr. Aldo Ajou Deng. As a community elder and renown politician, he has an obligation to help in guiding this community to the right path, I am glad he seems to be doing just that. We honor politicians who admit where they err during their leadership era and Ajou Deng is one of them.
This is a legacy-building period for people of Aldo Ajou's age and calibre. It is therefore imperative that he acknowledges that very fact. This is the right moment for Mr Aldo to devote his time and energy into serving the community in such areas as lobbying for fund to build schools (as he promised), hospitals etc. And since he is already working towards acheiving those aspirations, I should give him a big thank you.
What happen in Kansas city should serve as an example to the rest of fellow southerners. Democracy is the way to go, at least from the report, it was a peaceful transition from one team to another, that is how the southern Sudan, which most of us envisioned, ought to be. I don't want to suggest that democracy is only practiced in Aweil, it is also practiced in other communities. What I am however saying is that, there are people in the south who would rather die than see democracy flourish in the south. Such people have very much at state in the evolution of a dictatorial regime in southern Sudan and will therefore move heaven and earth (if that is what it means) to defend dictatorship. Those people should learn a lesson or two from the outcome of this conference, let them see how beautiful it is to be democratically elected leader.
Once again, thank you so much for the report Mr. Aher, we look forward to hearing more including the names of the newly elected office bearers. Stay cool.
I really don't know what to tell you and others people like Aldo Aju for taking their valuable time to attend the community meeting. Dhor I knew you since, you always a good eyesball to see clearly toward our community aweil. Once again I thanks you brother.
Like everyone else, I would like to congratulate Dhor Aher on his pragmatic effort to put this piece of vital information together. I would also like to thank the former politician AldouAjou for his plan to bring back our hope and eliminate hopelessness. Generally, I am also happy to see that wonderful, promising, and motivating course initiated by our concerned leaders. Though it is not yet implemented, we owe Mr.Aldou Ajou and others a tremendous appreciation and gratitude and I am glad most of you have positively and appreciatively responded to it. It is great and incredible! Aweil people are too resilient and I hope it will be easy for them to fully recuperate if the help promised comes to them. Moreover, it is clearly a high time for most of us to acknowledge the ability of our leaders youths included, who have recognized their past mistakes and are planning to do something for that war-devastated city. Aweil has been seriously hit, we all know, by both natural and man-made disasters for more than two decades. But I hope this seemingly long anxiety, desperation, and frustration created by the mass killing war can be easily reduced or eliminated if we co-operate and unite. Aweil people have unprecedently faced the hardest life in the human history. Therefore, people like Aldou Ajou and others should be ecouraged and motivated to fulfill their promises to rescue that community from this desperate situation.
Historically, most of the world highly developed countries or communities were developed by a few people but the benefits eventually helped the entire communities to rapid progress and prosperity and thus the future generations were ultimatly prepared. In mid 60s-80s, we had great leaders in America who emerged because of the challenges and difficulties that were facing the American people. These leaders in their respective capacities initiated very important programs to combat the problems their people were facing in that particular period in American history. For instance, Andrew Jackson came up with his doctrine "the common man." His policy was principally designed and structured in the way that would give everyboy attention and help. That policy actually had a profound and far-reaching effect on common man. John F.Kenedy in his leadership said, "don't ask what your country will do for you but ask what you will do your country." Abraham Linclon in his leadership said, Americans need "the governement for the people, by the people, and of the people." That sounds more democratic in its sense, isn't it? In the same fashion, we might not be all concerned about Aweil problems but there are some people who think day and night about what happened to Aweil and they always ask the questions. How did it happen, who was responsible, and how can it be cured? These are important questions that most of us if not all should ask themselves. Aldou Ajou, officers in the field who are tirelessly and courageously providing are amongst the people could be like those American leaders I have mentioned.
Thus, let's hope as Kuot Kuot put it that Aldou Ajou and other leaders in Aweil will take this as a legitimate challenge to free our people from this desperate situation. The hopes and dreams of Aweil people must be brought back and enlivened by Aweil people, especially leaders and youths in their honest and caring tendency in wherever they are in this world. The spirit of unity, co-operation, caring, and recognition/realization of onself as an important component of the community is the way Aweil community should move ahead to reach high avenues in development. Most of us probably were desperate in the past relative to the course our leadership was taking but now I hope most of us have been relieved of discouragement and pessimism. As I said somewhere in my article that Aweil people are resilient, it is true, we will recover from all these tough challenges if we focus our attention on the issues that are vitally important to the progress of the entire community. Mind you, I know it is difficult to get easily stabilized and recovered after such a long war but caring for the entire community can make our dreams true. We have to have principles and policies to materialize the promises. The co-operation is the key too.
Most importantly, the issue of education or school which was the principal agenda of the conference, is in fact the backbone of development not only for the Aweil community but for the rest of the world. Those children (both boys and girls) in Aweil who get married at their teen age are do that collosal mistake, which is economically and socially burdensome because they have no another opportunity to engage them until their appropirate age. Dhor Aher mentioned this issue of appropriate was also discussed. However, this issue ought not to be discussed becaused these kids will marry late when we bring schools; they will have knowledge about economic and social problems that are involved in marriage institution. My point here is that, people will be forced to marry late if they have education to know what kind of problems are involved in marriage institution. Indeed, the remedy to early marriage, I suppose, would be an increment of education opportunities so that kids can go to school which will take most of their time.
To conclude my point, I would advise everyboy to be patient and wait to see if the former and current politicians are trying to play another politics other than a genuine commitment to rescue their destitute and desperate people in Aweil. Aldou Ajou others included are obligate to do something for Aweil people. And moreover, there should be no politics at this difficult time.
I have spent a little time going over the report you made concerning Aweil community convention in Kansas, and as one of the delegates from New York who attended the convention, I can say you have not forgotten anything at all. we those who were there have nothing to add to it. you did a very great job. I myself can say to everybody that the report is to it capacity. nothing to and nothing to underline.
