Condolences to the family of Deng Teng

“The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord

be praised” Job 1:21

The Aweil communities in Canada express their sincere condolence to the

families of Nogor Santino Deng, Anger Santino, Madut Santino Deng, and the

rest of the family’s members in regard of the death of their father and

father of all: Great Santino Deng Teng. It is impossible to thank everyone

who took part in nation building. However, we would like to thank a few of

our special heroes; the father Santino Deng Teng who pointed out his

pioneering thoughts and actions that helped us learned how to correctly use

power. In similar vein, Dengdit set forth an example that we learn of

sacrifice, sensitivity to others’ feelings and of love that expects nothing

in return. Dengdit is a leader with clear vision and wise speech that helps

others understand what is desired and undesired. We will never forsake his

wisdom and legacy. Instead,we will hold of his words with all our hearts.

May God almighty bless the family of the late Dengdit and may God place him

in His right hand. Amen.

Mr. Ashuein A. Alor

Chairman of Federation of Aweil Communities in Canada

Dear all,

The death of the late Syed Santino Deng Teng is a very great lost, for the peoples of Aweil in general and his immediate family in particular. My family and I, would like to sincerely convey our sympathy with the immediate family of Late Syed Santino Deng Teng, and to the entire Panoon Clan. My sympathy also goes especially to Ngor, Anger, Madut, Ajangdit, Ajangthiy, Teng (Teng Aguien), Ajang-Ruoldit, etc – my family shares with you the agony each of you is going through. As Christian, death is the beginning of the eternal life – and so Dengdit has gone to stay with Almighty infinite God. As Dinka, Dengdit had left a legacy of self-reliance; respect to the norms that governs our Dinka peoples, and above all he is survived by some of the most respected individuals in our society.

The late Santino was one of the leading Dinka poets – apart from his political legacy; Dengdit was a very articulate, respectful to the young and aged alike. There is no doubt Santino Deng was also one of the leading hygienic and the friend to the environment, I ever saw. Until, his untimely death Dengdit was still cleaning the pence of his residence. He was once upon his retirement from politics in the late 1960s, said to have been seen cleaning the forecourt of his Risidence in Aweil Town, when the passer-by asked him “why do he had to this himself and not assign it to other person” . The passer-by did not see any reason why a big man (a former Government Minster of Wild-Life Conservation and Tourism 1958 -1964) would chose to clean his house himself. However, the late Santino Deng did not either see any reason of giving his own things to be look after by someone else – so he had rather chosen to answer the question put to him by the passer-by with another question. What if something is hitching in your abdominal area? asked Dengdit. I will scratch it myself said the passer-by. Then, this one is hitching on my parts and so it requires my attention said Dengdit, and the passer-by was convinced, how self-reliance could be helpful for our developments. Such a progressive ideas to be embraced and applied by a third world's leader were very unique to Santino Deng Teng. He was also said to had once rebuked his brother-in-law Mr.Aldo Ajou whose paternal aunt Ms.Angong Akuei Ajou (the mother of twin Ngor and Anger Santino) was the first wife of Santino Deng, in one of the occasion when Mr.Ajou was complaining against those who insulted him for working with Arab. Dengdit, said in return and had this to say “what did you think I might have done to the people in 1950s 1960s when people were crying loudly against me! he paused for a moment, it was because I was a minister in the government that was fighting in the south, that backfired against me”. I had never shot any person physically said Dengdit. So, you better leave the government or risk being called "traitor" now and forever, he said advising his brother-in-law. Such a legacy, however, in my opinion was a very rich one Deng had ever left to his peoples. Those Aweilians who will adopt and inherit self-reliance from Santino Deng, would be the champions of freedom and developments. May Great Almighty Infinite God’ rest the soul of the late and the father of all mutual respect Santino Deng in the eternal peace.

Kind Regards.

Thanks Ateny Wek for providing a brief biography of the late Deng Teng. He left behind a rich legacy, he is undoubtedly one of the fathers of Aweil. His legacy should act as an inspiration for our leaders. He is a loss not only to his immediate family, but to the entire Aweil community. May his soul rest in eternal salvation.
